HAND, FOOT, & MOUTH DISEASE

Do you know what HFMD stand for? It’s hand, foot & mouth disease. It typically affects infants and children under 5 years old or maybe older and even adults can catch it as well. However, a small number of people develop severe complications that require hospitalization or even cause death. So here goes the list for us to learn how HFMD starts.

It usually starts with:
> A Fever
> Reduced appetite
> A Sore throat
> A feeling of being unwell (malaise)

This incubation period much like the common cold – and then rashes with tiny blister may starts to show up on body sites as follow:

> In the mouth: on the inner cheeks, gums, sides of the tongue, top of the mouth.
> Fingers
> Palms of hands
> Soles of feet
> Buttocks

Can my child go to playschool or child care with hand, foot and mouth disease?
NO, If…….

a)The child is not feeling well enough to participate in class.
b)The child has a fever.
c)The child has many open blisters.
